In 1968 NASA, under the guidance of Hugh Turnbull, W3ABC, asked the JPL Radio Club to participate in a new NASA Emergency Net. Surplus Collins S-Line equipment was provided by NASA HQ. This sparked the incentive to reactivate the club with full authorization.

The new station was given a home in the basement Disaster Command Center in Building 171. Gordon Crawford, the club’s graphic ace, designed this QSL card, which bears the club’s WA6DKJ callsign.
